Sarum Systems designs, installs, commissions and maintains fire alarms across Witham and the surrounding villages. We work with commercial and industrial units, shops with flats above on Newland Street, schools, HMOs, care settings and landlords. We use Apollo detection with Kentec and Advanced panels, take over systems another company installed, and keep everything serviced to BS 5839 with records you can show an inspector. If you are the responsible person for a building, we design to your fire risk assessment. Maintained systems get attendance within three hours.
HD & 4K camera systems with remote viewing, recording and smart motion alerts.
Wired & wireless intruder alarms, monitored and app-connected, fitted to BS EN 50131.
Keypad, fob and door-entry systems that control exactly who goes where.
Fire detection and alarm systems designed, installed and serviced to BS 5839.
Newland Street is the clearest fire safety challenge in Witham. Many buildings that look Georgian from the pavement hide much older timber frames behind their brick fronts, with flats above shops and offices and backland yards and outbuildings behind. A fire in a ground floor unit has to be detected early enough for the people upstairs to get out, often down a single stair. On the older estates, converted houses and small blocks of flats have common parts that fall under the Fire Safety Order, and a landlord letting rooms has to think about the whole building, not just one flat. Out on Eastways, Freebournes and Perry Road, workshops, manufacturing and storage units sit empty overnight and at weekends, when a fault or a fire can go unnoticed. When those units are re-let, the incoming tenant inherits whatever panel was left behind. Fire safety in Witham is enforced by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, and we design and document every system so it stands up to their inspection.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 puts the duty on the responsible person, usually the employer, owner or managing agent, for any non-domestic building and the common parts of flats and HMOs. Your fire risk assessment decides the system category, from L1 full coverage down to L5 targeted protection, or P1 and P2 for property. For a Newland Street shop with a flat above, we typically link detection in the shop and on the escape stair to sounders in the flat. HMOs and converted houses fall under BS 5839-6, usually Grade D1 or Grade A depending on size. Commercial and school systems follow BS 5839-1, serviced at intervals not exceeding six months. For blocks of flats, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties such as giving residents fire safety information.
